EARLY OR INTERCEPTIVE TREATMENT
Early or interceptive treatment with fixed or removable appliances to create space for crowded teeth as well as un-erupted teeth that may not have room to grow. Early treatment can also influence jaw growth to achieve symmetry of the face and correct misalignment which ultimately affects the bite and smile. It can also reduce and treatment time with braces and the need to remove teeth.
The American Association suggests that age 7 is about when you should consider having an orthodontic evaluation. If however you suspect there may be a developing problem at an earlier age you should get a consultation. THUMB SUCKING AND SIMILAR HABITS
Thumb or finger sucking or other similar habits can and do cause tooth misalignment or jaw deformation. Treatment of thumb and finger sucking is recommended if the child is still doing it after age 5 when permanent damage can occur if he/she continues the habit.
BRACES
Metal and ceramic braces to:
- Correct crowding or crooked teeth
- Close spaces between teeth
- Correct misalignment of the jaw which impacts the bite.
We can also administer treatment to prevent grinding and clenching of the teeth which wears down the teeth and causes stress and trauma to the jaw muscles and joint. In these cases a splint, bite plate or a night guard is used to protect the teeth during sleep which also relaxes the muscles
INVISALIGN
In some cases we can straighten your teeth without using traditional braces. Invisalign is a series of clear, removable, plastic aligners that are custom-made for your teeth.
These braces can almost be considered invisible because it is virtually clear. Most people around you probably won’’t even notice you’’re wearing it. Even better, it’’s comfortable because there are no wires and brackets that could irritate your mouth. It is also more convenient than traditional braces. The aligners are easily removable, so you may take them out whenever you need to− maybe for a special occasion. We must caution that your progress depends on how much or how little you wear the aligners.
POST TREATMENT
After treatment is complete it is necessary to occasionally wear retainers to ensure retention of the newly aligned teeth. Fixed and removable retainers or clear retainers will be prescribed.
